Sea Scouts To Enter Marine Technology ROV Competition

So the next challenge for the Sea Scouts of Ship 41 will be building a ROV (remote controlled underwater vehicle).  The regional competition is in April, 2010, however the goal of our Quarterdeck is to go to the U of Hawaii for the international event next June.


This is a photograph of a ROV, Seafox Retrofit, designed and built by Steve Thone .  The picture gives the scouts an idea what the final craft should look like.  As Ship 41's project progresses we'll keep you posted.

Also from Steve's website (click on link above) is diagram of a typical ROV.  These pictures are shown here with his permission. He has kindly offered to assist us by answering any (and there are sure to be some) questions as we move forward.

Sea Scout Ship 41 Receives NE Ohio Environmental Award

Commodore, Scott Engel, and Skipper, Richard Gash, receive the Northeast Ohio Environmental Honorable Mention Award from Mrs. Anne Bomar, V.P. and General Manager, Dominion Corp.  



By sponsoring these awards, Dominion & Biodiversity Alliance hope to encourage the community to emulate the achievements of the nominees, thereby promoting innovative evvironmental efforts and enhansing the quality of life in Northeast Ohio.

The award included a $500.00 check and a framed Herbarium print of a Trillium erectum.  Mr. Gash thanked Mrs. Bomar on behalf of Sea Scout Ship 41, BSA.





The presentation was made at the Cleveland Natural History Museum which was also the setting for the adult reception that followed.
